Everson is a small city in the Nooksack Valley, about 15 miles northeast of Bellingham, with about 2,900 people at the 2020 census. It sits on the banks of the Nooksack River next to the city of Nooksack, with Mount Baker on the skyline and farmland in every direction: dairies, berry fields and orchards.
The downtown is small and practical, with the basics close by, including a grocery store, a pharmacy, restaurants and farm supply. Riverside Park, about 8.5 acres on the river at the west edge of town, has ball fields, a covered picnic pavilion and walking paths along the water. City Park behind City Hall hosts the summer festival. The Sumas crossing into Abbotsford, B.C. is about 9 miles north.
Homes in town are a mix of older houses near Main Street and newer subdivisions, and outside the city limits you'll find farms, acreage and rural homes on larger lots. The things to weigh out here are the drive, about 25 to 30 minutes to downtown Bellingham, and the Nooksack River floodplain. One thing I always tell buyers out here is to look at the flood maps before you look at houses, and to ask whether a property is on city water and sewer or a well and septic.
Everson is served by the Nooksack Valley School District, which also covers Nooksack, Sumas and the surrounding area.
